Kilimanjaro Airport -- Moshi

If you have opted for the optional airport transfer service, you will be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. A pre-trek briefing will be conducted at your Moshi hotel. Guests are advised to arrive at least one day prior to the trek start date. During this briefing, our team will review the trekking itinerary, provide important safety and acclimatization information, and conduct a comprehensive equipment check. Any missing or unsuitable gear can be rented locally to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb.

One

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,870 m) – Mandara Hut (2,720 m)

After registration at Marangu Gate, the trek begins through lush montane rainforest, rich with birdlife and colobus monkeys. The trail is well maintained and gently ascends to Mandara Hut, where trekkers settle into shared huts. An optional acclimatization walk to the Maundi Crater offers scenic views of the surrounding lowlands. Trekking time: 4–5 hours Habitat: Rainforest

Two

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

The landscape transitions from rainforest to moorland, with expansive views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo. The ascent is steady and rewarding, allowing the body to adjust gradually to altitude. Arrival at Horombo Hut provides ample time to rest and enjoy the alpine scenery. Trekking time: 5–6 hours Habitat: Moorland

Three

Day 3: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,703 m)

This is a longer and more demanding day, crossing the Saddle, a high-altitude desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The terrain becomes barren and dramatic as oxygen levels decrease. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, trekkers rest and prepare for the summit attempt later that night. Trekking time: 6–7 hours Habitat: Alpine desert

Four

Day 4: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut

The summit attempt begins around midnight. The ascent is slow and challenging, following a zigzag path to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim, then continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating the achievement, trekkers descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut. Trekking time: 10–14 hours (ascent and descent) Habitat: Arctic / alpine desert

Five

Horombo Hut - Marangu Gate - Moshi

The final descent passes back through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Successful climbers receive their summit certificates before transferring to their hotel. Trekking time: 5–6 hours
