Day

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Genet African Safaris professional guide. After a short meet-and-greet, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to Tanzania’s culture, landscapes, and friendly people. Once in Arusha, enjoy time to relax and recover from your journey as you prepare for the adventure ahead.
AccommodationDay

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate to complete park formalities before beginning your trek. The trail ascends through lush montane rainforest, rich with towering trees, thick undergrowth, and vibrant birdlife. As you hike, you may spot blue monkeys swinging through the canopy or hear the distinctive calls of black-and-white colobus monkeys. The trail can be muddy and steep in places, but the scenery is incredibly rewarding. Arrive at Machame Camp, located just beyond the dense forest zone, surrounded by giant trees such as podocarpus and hagenia. In the evening, you may hear the unique calls of the tree hyrax echoing through the forest.
AccommodationDay

Today’s trek continues as the forest gradually thins, giving way to heath and moorland vegetation. Hanging mosses drape from trees, creating a mystical atmosphere along the trail. You will arrive at Shira Camp, situated on a high plateau with breathtaking views of Mount Kibo to the northwest and Mount Meru in the distance. White-necked ravens are commonly seen in this region.
AccommodationDay

Today is a crucial acclimatization day. Trek eastward through rocky terrain, passing giant senecios and lobelias as the landscape transitions into alpine desert. You will stop for lunch at Lava Tower (4,630 m). For those feeling strong, an optional non-technical scramble to the top offers stunning panoramic views. After lunch, descend steeply into the scenic Great Barranco Valley, losing altitude to aid acclimatization. Barranco Camp sits beneath the imposing Breach Wall and Kibo massif, surrounded by dramatic glaciers and unique high-altitude vegetation.
AccommodationDay

Begin the day by climbing the famous Great Barranco Wall, an exhilarating but non-technical ascent offering incredible views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers. The trail continues through the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley before ascending to Barafu Camp, meaning “ice” in Swahili. Located on an exposed ridge, Barafu offers sweeping views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Spend the afternoon preparing your equipment and resting ahead of your summit attempt. After dinner, retire early, knowing the final ascent awaits.
AccommodationDay

Around midnight, after a warm drink and light snack, begin your summit ascent. This is the most challenging yet rewarding day of the trek. After several hours of steady climbing, reach Stella Point (5,685 m) at sunrise. From here, continue along the snow-covered crater rim, passing the stunning Rebmann and Ratzel Glaciers, to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your incredible achievement at the “Roof of Africa” before descending back to Barafu Camp for a short rest. Continue down through scree and moorland zones to Millennium Camp, where a hot meal and well-earned rest await.
AccommodationDay

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificates from the National Park Authority. Enjoy a picnic lunch and celebrate your achievement before being transferred by vehicle to your hotel in Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
AccommodationDay

After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park, traveling through Tanzania’s scenic highlands and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive in the Serengeti and enjoy an exciting game drive across vast savannahs, home to lions, elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, and large herds of wildebeest and zebras. As evening falls, settle into your safari lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.
AccommodationDay

Following an early breakfast, enjoy a final game drive in the Serengeti before traveling to the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife destinations. Descend into the crater for a game drive, offering excellent chances to spot the Big Five, including the endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the hippo pool before ascending the crater rim and driving to Karatu for dinner and overnight.
AccommodationDay

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its ancient baobab trees and large elephant populations. Enjoy a final game drive and lunch before continuing to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey. This marks the end of your unforgettable Kilimanjaro climbing and Tanzania safari adventure with Genet African Safaris.
