Kilimanjaro Airport - Moshi

If you have opted for the optional airport transfer service, you will be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. A pre-trek briefing will be conducted at your Moshi hotel. Guests are advised to arrive at least one day prior to the trek start date. During this briefing, our team will review the trekking itinerary, provide important safety and acclimatization information, and conduct a comprehensive equipment check. Any missing or unsuitable gear can be rented locally to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb.

One

Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m)

After registration at Londorossi Gate, the trek begins through dense montane rainforest. The trail is quiet and rich in wildlife, with chances of spotting colobus monkeys. The day ends at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, nestled beneath the forest canopy. Trekking time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Rainforest

Two

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m)

The trail climbs steadily out of the forest and into the heather and moorland zone. As vegetation thins, expansive views of the Shira Plateau begin to appear. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp, located on the western side of the plateau. Trekking time: 5–6 hours Habitat: Moorland

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

A gentle trek across the Shira Plateau, offering stunning panoramic views of Kibo Peak. This short day aids acclimatization and allows time to relax or take acclimatization walks around camp. Trekking time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Moorland

Four

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower (4,630 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

This important acclimatization day follows the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” The route ascends to Lava Tower, then descends into the scenic Barranco Valley. The camp sits beneath the iconic Barranco Wall, surrounded by giant senecios. Trekking time: 6–7 hours Habitat: Alpine desert / Moorland

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)

The day begins with a scramble up the Barranco Wall, offering breathtaking views. The trail then traverses ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp, providing further acclimatization ahead of the summit push. Trekking time: 4–5 hours Habitat: Alpine desert

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,673 m)

A steady ascent leads to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit. After an early dinner, trekkers rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt. Trekking time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Alpine desert

Seven

Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

The summit attempt begins shortly after midnight. The challenging ascent passes Stella Point before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating the achievement, trekkers descend to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. Trekking time: 10–14 hours Habitat: Arctic / Moorland

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate

A final descent through lush rainforest leads to Mweka Gate, where successful climbers receive their summit certificates before transfer back to Moshi. Trekking time: 3–4 hours
